In 2009 Deon Optical corporation released a totally new design to satisfy the demands of the Benchrest world. The new eyepiece zoom model is a world first design in a 2nd focal plane rifle scope with the eyepiece able to zoom from 55x back to 36x without changing the POA (point of aim) like 1st focal plane and is also capable of focusing to less than 10 yards.
In January 2010 Annie Elliott won the 30th anniversary Australia Day Benchrest Matches in the national capital, Canberra, using a March 36x-55x EP zoom model. Fergus Bailey won the Harry Madden Memorial Varmint Championships in Brisbane 2009 using a 36x-55x EPZ and that started a rush of interest in these very special models.
